An exciting new development for the Simpatico label is the production of essential Rosemary oil. As with the Lavender oil, this oil will be produced by steam distillation and available for sale online and at select outlets.The processing of this oil is audited and certified Bio Gro organic standards.
According to the Royal Horticultural Society’s ‘Encyclopaedia of Herbs and their uses’ “Rosemary is a symbol of friendship, loyalty, and remembrance in many parts of the world; it is traditionally carried by mourners at funerals and by a bride at her wedding. Greek scholars wore garlands of rosemary when they were taking examinations to improve their memory and concentration”.
Rosemary contains volatile oil, flavonoids and phenolic acids, which are strongly antiseptic and anti inflammatory. The essential oil of Rosemary may vary considerably depending on the plant’s genetics and growing conditions. To date, the two main species of Rosemary grown on the Brightwater farm for essential oil production are ‘Lady in White’ and ‘Blue Lagoon’. Aroma profiles prepared by professional perfumers when comparing Blue Lagoon and Lady in White with a commercial North African oil found the perfumery notes of Blue Lagoon and Lady in White to be novel because they have more attractive herbal, pine, terpenic and fresh notes ….(source: Crop and Food Research publication : “Rosemary-a growers’ guide for commercial production – P.E.
